A) Hypnosis comes from the Greek word “Hypnos” meaning sleep. Hypnosis is a state of consciousness resembling sleep.
Q) Can I get stuck in hypnosis?
A) No. You cannot get stuck in hypnosis. If you do not wake up immediately once the session is completed, then you will go into a state of sleep and will wake up automatically once the period of sleep is over.
Q) Do I lose control if I am put in a hypnotic trance?
A) No. You are always in control. Only if you want, you will enter the hypnotic trance. You cannot be forced to do anything against your will.
Q) Can I be hypnotised?
A) Yes. You can be hypnotised if you are willing to be hypnotised.
Q) Is a hypnotic trance an unnatural state of consciousness?
A) No. Hypnotic trance is a normal state of consciousness. You normally experience a brief period of hypnosis twice in a night while sleeping- while going into deep sleep and while waking up from sleep in the morning.
Q) Will I lose awareness of my surroundings when I am in hypnotic trance?
A) No. In a hypnotic trance, you will continue to be aware of your environment. You will still continue to hear the therapist’s voice and also the background sounds like the sound of vehicles on the road, the dogs barking, the birds chirping, etc. though these sounds will not disturb you.
Q) Will I be forced to reveal all of my secrets if I am in a hypnotic trance?
A) No. You are in control and you can decide what information you want to reveal to your therapist. The therapist will always maintain confidentiality of the information that you give during therapy.
